7.4.1 Local community outreach for energy efficiency

Boğaziçi University's Programmes on Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy

Boğaziçi University organises various programmes and events to raise awareness of the local community on energy efficiency and clean energy. The University's work in this area covers sustainability education and social awareness raising efforts and addresses a wide range of participants.

Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy Programmes for the Local Community

Boğaziçi University Lifelong Learning Centre (BÜYEM) organises both customised and public training sessions on sustainability, energy efficiency and clean energy. These programmes help local communities understand the importance of energy efficiency and encourage the use of clean energy sources. In particular, the ‘Smart Life Academy’ programme, run in cooperation with Zorlu Holding, provides participants with comprehensive training on sustainability and energy efficiency.

In addition, the ‘Sustainable Future Education’ programme, carried out in partnership with imeceLAB and Zorlu Holding, aims to equip young individuals with basic competencies in sustainability. These programmes support the development of a more sustainable and environmentally conscious society and contribute to the transition of local communities to energy efficiency and clean energy.

Boğaziçi Energy Summit

Organised by Boğaziçi University Electrotechnology Club (BUEC-IEEE), the Bosphorus Energy Summit is an important event addressing topics such as energy efficiency, electric vehicles, renewable energies and sustainability. The summit brings together local communities, students and industry professionals to highlight the importance of energy efficiency and clean energy sources. Taking place on 18 November 2023 at the Garanti Cultural Centre, the summit offers participants the opportunity to meet with companies and find career opportunities in the energy sector.

Social Responsibility and Education Projects

Various student clubs of Boğaziçi University also raise awareness on energy efficiency and environmental awareness through social responsibility projects. Initiatives such as Boğaziçi University Construction Club's “Our Primary School” project advocate for equal opportunities in education, while highlighting energy efficiency and sustainability issues. In addition, the TeknoDolu event, organised by the Boğaziçi University Informatics Club (COMPEC), aims to instil technology and environmental awareness in children from disadvantaged regions.

The Renewable Energy Technologies Research Laboratory (BURET), located at Kilyos Sarıtepe Campus, contributes to efforts to increase energy efficiency by generating power with Organic Rankine Cycle technology, which utilises low-temperature heat sources.
