6.4.2 Water reuse measurement

Water Reuse Measurement

Boğaziçi University actively measures water reuse within the scope of sustainable water management. The amount of water reuse, energy and carbon footprints were monitored in selected buildings at the university using SoFi software. This software enables the systematic collection, evaluation, modelling and reporting of environmental data.

Grey Water Recovery Systems:

The grey water recovery systems used in Boğaziçi University's South Campus 1st Men's Dormitory and North Campus 4th Dormitory buildings recover 16 m³ of grey water per day. This recovered water is used in toilets and meets 15% of the daily water demand in the 1st Men's Dormitory.

Rain Water Recovery Systems:

The rainwater recovery systems in the National Earthquake Monitoring Centre (UDIM) Building on the Kandilli Campus and the North Campus ETA Building collect rainwater collected on the roofs in 46 m³ and 20 m³ tanks and use it as garden irrigation, cleaning and reservoir water. In addition, an estimated 1747 m³ of rainwater that can be collected on the roofs of Hisar Campus per year will be treated and reused in buildings.

These systems of Boğaziçi University promote environmental sustainability by maximising the recovery and use of water. These policies and practices play an important role in achieving the university's sustainability goals.
