14.4.2 Action plan to reducing plastic waste

Action Plan for Reducing Plastic Waste (in force by 2023)

Boğaziçi University is actively working on reducing plastic waste on campus and sustainable waste management. Our university aims to contribute to the protection of water ecosystems by encouraging environmentally friendly practices. Within the scope of recyclable waste management, all plastic, paper, glass and metal wastes on campus are collected separately and collected at recycling points. These practices aim to minimise the amount of waste and reduce the use of plastic.

Boğaziçi University also published an important report titled ‘Plastic Waste Problem in Turkey and Policy Recommendations’ in collaboration with WWF Turkey. This report provides policy recommendations for reducing plastic waste and emphasises that Turkey can assume a leading role in plastic waste management.

The University also promotes environmentally friendly products within the scope of the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan and aims to reduce plastic-containing products. The organisation of recycling bins and waste collection processes are regularly checked and improved in line with sustainability principles.

These initiatives reflect Boğaziçi University's commitment to environmental protection and sustainability and its efforts to protect the health of aquatic ecosystems.
