15.2.5 Sustainable management of land for agriculture and tourism
Sustainable Land Management for Agriculture and Tourism (Education and Outreach) - 2023
Boğaziçi University offers various educational programmes and outreach to local and national communities on sustainable management of agricultural and tourism lands. These initiatives are geared towards maintaining ecosystem health and supporting biodiversity, and strengthen the university's collaboration with local and national stakeholders.
Sustainable Agriculture Education Programmes
Boğaziçi University provides trainings on sustainable agricultural practices to stakeholders in the agricultural sector through the BOUN Agriculture Platform. The platform organises trainings and projects addressing issues such as increasing productivity, technology integration and ecological sustainability in the agricultural sector. These programmes provide support to both small producers and large-scale enterprises.
- BÜKOOP (Boğaziçi Mensupları Tüketim Kooperatifi): BÜKOOP, one of the university's sustainable food initiatives, brings small producers and consumers together directly. With the food co-operative model, it aims to bring healthy and fair food to a wider audience. It also contributes to the promotion of sustainable agriculture by establishing trust-based relationships between consumers and producers.
Sustainable Tourism Training Programmes
Boğaziçi University promotes sustainable land management in the tourism sector with its Sustainable Tourism Master's Programme. This programme offers training based on sustainability principles, taking into account environmental, economic and social balances in tourism. In addition, the university raises awareness on how to manage sustainable tourism through various conferences and public lectures.
Community Engagement and Outreach
Boğaziçi University collaborates with local and national communities to achieve sustainability goals in agriculture and tourism. BOUN Agriculture and Food Summit 2023 contributes to communities as a platform to discuss innovations and sustainability strategies in supply chain management from agriculture to food. In this summit, topics such as sustainable practices, productivity, biological control in the agriculture and food sector are covered.

Boğaziçi University organises various symposiums and summits every year to raise awareness on sustainable agriculture and to share current developments in the sector. Some of these events are ‘Sustainable Agriculture and Food Summit’, ‘Climate-Water-Agriculture Summit for a Sustainable Future’,‘Farm Summit’,‘Innovators in Agriculture Summit’, ‘Agriculture and Food Value Chain Summit’ and‘Food and Healthy Nutrition Symposium’. Academics, sector leaders and local communities come together in these platforms to discuss sustainability strategies and share information in processes ranging from agriculture to the food supply chain.
