16.3.2 Policy- and lawmakers outreach and education
Bogazici University: Outreach and Education for Policy and Legislators
Boğaziçi University provides outreach, general education, skills development and capacity building services for policy makers and legislators in areas such as economics, law, technology, migration, displacement and climate change. These services are provided through units such as Boğaziçi Lifelong Learning Centre (BÜYEM) and United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) Turkey.
Training and Capacity Building Activities:
- UN SDSN Turkey organises various workshops and training programmes to train local authorities and policy makers in Turkey. For example, events such as the Cities for Climate Workshop and Climate Action Plan Training provide guidance to local governments on climate change.
- The Finance Application and Research Centre organises trainings and seminars on financial innovation, technology and sustainability, informing policy makers and providing support to decision makers in these areas.
- Energy Policy Application and Research Centre (EPAM) conducts scientific research on energy policies and contributes to public administration through national and international collaborations and trainings.
- Life Sciences and Technologies Application and Research Centre conducts interdisciplinary research and training in the field of life sciences and technologies and collaborates with the public and private sectors.

Boğaziçi University provides neutral platforms that encourage equal participation of stakeholders from political and social perspectives in decision-making processes and support their open exchange of ideas. These platforms are designed to increase mutual understanding among stakeholders and develop common solutions to problems.

Boğaziçi University's quality assurance activities were discussed at the workshop A ‘Quality Assurance Workshop’ was held at Boğaziçi University on 15-16 June to evaluate quality assurance activities and prepare for the external evaluation programmes of the Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK). Giving information about the quality studies that gained momentum at Boğaziçi University in 2023, Rector Prof. Dr. İnci said, ‘Ensuring the participation of all stakeholders in the process plays a very important role in the success of the internal evaluation and quality studies we carry out. With this approach, we are creating an established quality culture together with our stakeholders, and the outputs of this workshop are very important for the institutionalisation of our quality assurance studies and to create an action plan.’
