SMOKE-FREE CAMPUS POLICY

PURPOSE

Article 1. The purpose of Boğaziçi University's Smoke-Free Campus Policy is to protect individuals' right to breathe clean air, reduce the negative effects of tobacco products on human health and the environment, and support sustainable campus life, which is one of the University's fundamental institutional responsibilities.

SCOPE

Article 2. This policy applies to all academic and administrative staff, students, visitors, contractors, and all third parties on campus.

BASIS

Article 3. This Policy has been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 4207 on the Prevention and Control of the Harms of Tobacco Products.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

Areas Where the Use of Tobacco Products Is Prohibited

Article 4.

(1) The use of cigarettes and other tobacco products is prohibited in all buildings and enclosed areas owned by the University or used within the scope of University activities, as well as in service, shuttle, and similar public transport vehicles provided by the University or used within the scope of University activities.

(2) In this context, the term ‘tobacco product’ includes products that contain tobacco or do not contain tobacco but are used in a manner that imitates tobacco products.

Outdoor Areas

Article 5. The use of tobacco products in outdoor campus areas shall be assessed in accordance with national legislation and the University's rules, taking into account environmental health, waste management, and sustainability principles.

Prohibition of Sale on Campus

Article 6. The sale of cigarettes, tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, hookahs, and similar products is prohibited within University campuses.

Prohibition of Advertising, Promotion, and Incentives

Article 7. Within University campuses, University-owned vehicles, and in the context of University activities, the following are prohibited:

a) Any form of advertising, promotion, or sponsorship related to tobacco products,

b) Practices that encourage or promote the use of tobacco products;

c) The use of names, logos, trademarks, or elements associated with or evocative of tobacco product companies.

IMPLEMENTATION, MONITORING, AND RESPONSIBILITY

Article 8. All members of the University community and visitors are obliged to comply with this Policy. The implementation of the Policy and the assessment of violations shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant legislation and the University’s internal regulations.

ENTRY INTO FORCE

Article 9. This Policy shall enter into force as of the date of its publication.
