Promoting Sustainable Commuting

Boğaziçi University has developed various actions and projects to encourage its employees and students to use more sustainable transport options. As of 2022, the sustainable transport policies and incentives in practice are as follows:

1. Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles

Boğaziçi University has established electric vehicle charging stations on the South Campus. These charging stations serve electric vehicle users within the campus and special areas have been allocated for parking the vehicles.

2. Electric Scooter Sharing Programme

Studies on an electric scooter sharing programme are ongoing at the university. The aim of this programme is to promote the use of electric scooters in short-distance transportation between campuses and provide an environmentally friendly transportation alternative.

3. Special Parking Areas for Disabled Drivers

Specially marked parking spaces have been allocated on all campuses for disabled staff and students. These areas are designed to enable disabled individuals to park and move around the campus easily.

4. Free Shuttle Services

Boğaziçi University provides free shuttle service between all campuses for students and staff. This service facilitates transportation between campuses and encourages sustainable public transport.

5. Bicycle Parking Areas and Incentives

There are bicycle parking spaces within the university. In addition, it is aimed to develop bicycle routes between campuses and increase bicycle storage facilities in order to increase bicycle use. Thus, it is aimed to support pedestrian and bicycle transport.

These actions demonstrate Boğaziçi University's commitment to promoting environmentally friendly transport and disseminating sustainable transport solutions within the campus. The long-term goal of the University is to minimise its impact on the environment by creating a more environmentally friendly and sustainable transport network.
